Pixel Design and Evaluation in CMOS Image Sensor Technology

چکیده
A chip designed in a 0.18 μm CMOS Image Sensor Technology (CIS) is presented which incorporates different pixel design alternatives for Active Pixel Sensor (APS). CIS technology improves characteristics such as sensitivity, dark current and noise, that are strongly layout dependent. This chip includes a set of pixel architectures where different parameters have been modified: layout of active diffusion, threshold voltage of the source follower transistor and the use of microlenses. Besides, structures to study the influence of crosstalk between pixels have been incorporated. Keywords— Image Sensors, Active Pixels Sensor, CIS

New Method for Analysis of image sensor to produce and evaluate the image
In this paper, a new method for evaluating CMOS image sensors based on computer modeling and analysis is introduced. Image sensors are composed of different parts, each of which has a specific effect on image quality. Circuits of image sensors can be evaluated and analyzed using circuit simulators or theoretically, but these methods cannot help to produce the final image. In order to produce th...

متن کاملCMOS Active Pixel Image Sensor for Highly Integrated Imaging Systems
A new CMOS-based image sensor that is intrinsically compatible with onchip CMOS circuitry is reported. The new CMOS active pixel image sensor achieves low noise, high sensitivity, X-Y addressability, and has simple timing requirements. The image sensor was fabricated using a 2 pm p-well CMOS process, and consists of a 128 x 128 array of 40 pm x 40 pm pixels. The CMOS image sensor technology ena...
متن کاملHow Small Should Pixel Size Be?
Pixel design is a key part of image sensor design. After deciding on pixel architecture, a fundamental tradeoff is made to select pixel size. A small pixel size is desirable because it results in a smaller die size and/or higher spatial resolution; a large pixel size is desirable because it results in higher dynamic range and signal-to-noise ratio. Given these two ways to improve image quality ...
متن کاملCMOS image sensor with pseudorandom pixel placement for jaggy elimination
The pixels in the conventional image sensors are placed at lattice positions, and this causes the jaggies at the edge of the slant line we perceive, which is hard to resolve by pixel size reduction. The author has been proposing the method of reducing the jaggies effect by arranging the photo diode at pseudorandom positions, with keeping the lattice arrangement of pixel boundaries that are comp...
